Union Learning Representatives (ULRs)
'As UNISON activists we know how to support and encourage employees who lack confidence.
We hear all the time how pleased our learners are that the union is taking this initiative -
safe learning with no hidden agendas! It makes it easy to recruit satisfied customers.'

News on the latest learning initiatives via the Branch Learning Centre
The ESAB Learning Centre continues to work with Teaching Assistants (T.A's) in infant and primary schools to upskill them to the Level 2 national targets in literacy and numeracy. Via Careconnect Learning Ltd, members initially undertake a confidential diagnostic test of their skills, then appropriate online courses, through to the City and Guilds accredited tests. This has been a really successful campaign and T.A's have expressed positive feedback for this type of learning.
We are also working with the Workers Educational Association to provide a 60 hour Return to Learn course for members. We have 19 learners from East Sussex and 16 learners from Kent. They will soon be joining up for a weekend of study at a local hotel. Current learners spoken to are really enjoying the course.
We have formed a partnership with
Sussex Downs College
to deliver a number of recreational courses for our members. So, if you have a group of 8 or more members who would like a specific short course, contact Lou and she will put you in contact with the appropriate person at the College.
East Sussex County Council (ESCC) has now included the role of ULR's into their Facilities Agreement. This means we can actively recruit and train new and existing ULR's. We currently have 4 trained ULRs and 3 untrained within East Sussex County Council. They are:
We now have a trained ULR at Sussex Downs College.
We now have a trained ULR at Mencap.
